Kirsten Maxwell

I am a mom of three that loves to share my love for travel with my children and others. I am an avid reader, excessive coffee drinker, grade school teacher, chauffeur, chef and some time referee. I created Kids Are A Trip to inspire others to travel with their children and to help others that either suffer from food allergies or have children with food allergies plan for travel abroad. The best part of traveling with your kids is seeing the world from their point of view. It is so different from our own.

You can work pretty much where you want to – on the road, do you find it hard to work or do you just have fun and work when you come back home?

We usually travel with our three kids in tow, so it would ruin the vacation if I worked on the road. I prefer to take notes as needed (and lots of pictures) and then write about our travels when we return home.

Do you feel many people are envious of your lifestyle?

I would hope not. It takes a lot of time, money, planning, energy and effort to travel. Do we travel to some exotic destinations, sure, but it takes a lot of ground work to get us there.

In which countries have people recognised you, even when you thought nobody would?

I just started blogging in February, but I am amazed when people stop me around town and tell me how much they are enjoying reading my blog. I think the one that caught me off guard the most, was my child's teacher telling me that they had read it, and thought it was fascinating!

Which three items would you never travel without?

Well, as a mom I know I am supposed to say my three children. However, of the things I can actually fit in a suitcase, I would say I never leave without my iPhone, hand wipes and a comfortable pair of walking shoes.

Are there any specific souvenirs or other things you collect from the places you go to?

When we travel we like to collect souvenirs that remind us of the city or country we visit. We have this wonderful Fado music CD from Coimbra, Portugal and then there is beautiful crystal we bought in Prague on our honeymoon. We are very particular with our souvenirs. We want something with meaning, something that we will treasure for many years after our adventure.
