Seattle Dredge is a 24 year old travel blogger, currently living in Toronto, Canada. Seattle often travels solo, looking for adventure, adrenaline and the perfect photo opportunity wherever she goes. Seattle’s blog is a place to share those adventures and inspire others to do the same thing. And yes, her real name is Seattle.
You can work pretty much where you want to – on the road, do you find it hard to work or do you just have fun and work when you come back home?
I do a little bit of both. Travel often involves long periods of transport, so I usually pull my laptop out during those times and do some writing. I'm also becoming better at giving myself structure when it comes to deadlines on the road. Even if I'm on a tropical beach, I know when work needs to be done. Of course, I still enjoy my travels and save some of the work for home!
Do you feel many people are envious of your lifestyle?
Of course they are, and I don't blame them. However, I cringe a little bit each time someone tells me how "lucky" I am. Yes, it's an AMAZING job, but luck has nothing to do with it. I work hard for what I have, and have made a lot of sacrifices to get here.
In which countries have people recognised you, even when you thought nobody would?
I thought the funniest situation was when I was on a month long road trip with Visit New South Wales. People had been following our social media campaign, and each time we pulled into a new town, they all seemed to know who we were. We ended up in the tiny country town, where everyone was treating us like celebrities. We even made the front page of the local newspaper!
Which three items would you never travel without?
Well, aside from the obvious (passport), I never travel without my laptop, DSLR camera and iPhone. I suppose this makes me a "flashpacker", but hey... I'm a blogger -- I need my technology!
Are there any specific souvenirs or other things you collect from the places you go to?
Postcards, maps and tattoos.
