Stephanie Walsh

Stephanie is an Irish travel addict and adventurer, who loves exploring different cultures, meeting people from different walks of life and learning about the world. She also loves to explore the world through photography.

Within one year, she visited five continents and began to travel ‘full-time’ after quitting her job in January 2012. She is a ‘digital nomad’ who funds her travels through online entrepreneurship, including freelance travel writing, blogging and running an online store. She hopes she can continue to remain location independent, so she can explore more of the world in the coming years.

Stephanie prefers to travel slowly and has lived temporarily in many places around the world, including New Delhi, Washington D.C., Mexico City and Cali, Colombia. Stephanie travels with her Colombian boyfriend, Andrés, who is really quite lovely.

You can work pretty much where you want to – on the road, do you find it hard to work or do you just have fun and work when you come back home?

I work completely online, so indeed I can work from anywhere, however I find that I can't work effectively if we are travelling fast; moving from one place to the next every few days. To work properly and really concentrate on my projects I need to be in one place for a while. That's why we prefer 'slow long-term travel'. We pick a place, stay there for a few months; work, explore and still get to live and see a new places!

Do you feel many people are envious of your lifestyle?

I guess. The grass is always greener on the other side. I am often envious of people with normal jobs, a steady income and a permanent place that they call home. Whenever we stay somewhere, we know it is going to be temporary, so we can't put down too many roots, buy many things etc. Eventually we'll be moving on and have to take everything with us... on our backs! But I love being able to see new cultures and places and I think I am very lucky. I know many people who would love to travel, so I guess they are envious, but I try not to talk about my travels too much... I would hate to be seen as a show off... despite having a blog! :P

In which countries have people recognised you, even when you thought nobody would?

Never... I don't think my blog is that famous! :P

Which three items would you never travel without?

My camera, factor 50 sunscreen and my laptop.

Are there any specific souvenirs or other things you collect from the places you go to?

I would love to... but since I have to carry everything I collect on my back, I don't collect anything other than memories and photos, of which there are more than enough already! :)
