Janet Abercrombie

Janet Moeller-Abercrombie has a passion for creating learning communities. On a organizational level, Janet helps develop curriculum, assess outcomes, and suggest best practice instructional techniques. She also coaches individual teachers and students.

As a writer, Janet contributes to the 1:1 Schools blog and has written guest posts for Dangerously Irrelevant and The Edublogger.

Janet is a doctoral candidate through the University of Minnesota, a licensed teacher and principal in the state of Oregon, and certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

What was your first travel experience?

I joined a group of 40 teachers for a month-long language immersion experience in Puebla, Mexico. The trip included a homestay, 80 hours of language instruction, and 20 hours in second language education pedagogy.

Describe a travel experience that changed your life.

The summer after Mexico, I traveled on my own to Spain... I went on a motorcycle trip around Vietnam... I taught English to English teachers in a rural part of China... I've lived in Hong Kong for over 10 years. I lived in India for 15 months. My husband is Australian. We were married in New Zealand.

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words; do you take photos when you travel? Where have you taken the best photos?

My best photos were in Mexico and Spain.

What country's stamp do you most want to add to your passport?

Argentina. I want to hit all the Spanish-speaking countries of the world.

What was your best meal while traveling? Worst meal?

Best meal: A B&B in the Himalayas - 9 courses. Worst meal: A Szechwan soup that made plutonium sound mild.
